Schifferstadt Architectural Museum

Owned and operated by Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, Schifferstadt is one of America's finest examples of German colonial architecture. The 1758 stone house is one of the earliest known homes in Frederick and has several unique architectural features such as the five-plate stove, which is the only example its original position. The house and Heritage Gardens are known for its living history events, check website for details. Call or email the museum for guided tours.

South Mountain Heritage Society

Formerly the Resurrection Reformed Church, this 1823 building in the historic rural village of Burkittsville was used as a hospital after the battles of South Mountain and Antietam. It now houses a collection of historical artifacts and records from the surrounding area. First Sundays of the month, April-September, 1-4 p.m. or by appointment.

South Mountain State Battlefield Park

The State Battlefield park encompasses the three gaps of South Mountain (Crampton's, Fox's, and Turner's gaps) that were the scene of the Sept 14, 1862 battle, just days before Antietam. Daily: 8am-sunset.

Free program from 12 noon  until 5 p.m.

View an exhibition dedicated to the art of Vince Coates, noted for its joie de vivre!  A local artist, Mr. Coates has exhibited in numerous local and regional art shows and two international shows in Shumen, Bulgaria.

For Museums by Candlelight, this site packages nicely with other Northern Frederick County locations, including Catoctin Mountain Park , Cunningham Falls State Park, and the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

William F. Moran, Jr. Museum and Foundation, Inc.

The purpose of the William F. Moran, Jr. Museum and Foundation is to educate, preserve and promote the ancient art and craft of hand-forged knives and tools used in bladesmithing, and to establish a William F.
